Join us in supporting several mission partners in Jackson/Madison County throughout the year as we serve the least and the lost of our community in Jesus’ name.
Partnerships and Opportunities
Each spring, our church comes together as a West Jackson family for a day of service projects around the city of Jackson called SERVE731. Projects typically include light construction and painting, hospital ministry, nursing home ministry, meal delivery to shut-ins, distributing care packages to the homeless, and partnering with local ministries. But we also serve many of these same agencies and fill needs throuhgout the year. Read more below for some of the ways in which West Jackson serves within the Jackson community and beyond.
Hartland Apartments Outreach Ministry
Our Hartland Apartments Ministry has been serving children and youth living in Hartland Apartments and the surrounding neighborhoods off of Old Hickory Rd. between Hollywood Rd. and the 45 Bypass for more than 10 years. Volunteers are needed each year to help with evening Bible Study, crafts, activities and tutoring. There are many ways to connect with this ministry; please visit our Hartland page to learn more.
Lighthouse Layne is a tutoring program offered to the children in the Hartland community. The tutoring takes place in the Community Center at the Hartalnd Apartments from 5:00pm – 5:45pm on the Mondays the ministry takes place. If you would like to help tutor Hartland residents, contact Jennifer King or Janice Thomason.
Hartland Community Church
A few years ago, a couple of our church members felt called to plant a church in the Hartland Apartments area. In the summer of 2015, they held their first service in the Community Center at the apartment complex. The church now meets every Sunday for worship at 11:30am. Currently they are in need of families who will join with them to reach the unchurched in and around the apartments. For more information, contact Tommy Tucker.
Weekly Jail Outreach Ministry
Every Wednesday men from West Jackson take part in a weekly Jail Ministry. The men give devotions, share their faith, give away free Bibles and Christian resources. If you would like to receive more information or volunteer please contact Andy Akin or Alan Teel.
Arise2Read (Formerly “Arise Jackson”)
In the fall of 2015, West Jackson began a partnership with Arise Jackson, now called Arise2Read. Arise2Read is tutoring program for 2nd graders in Jackson area schools. Once a week, for a total of one hour, volunteers tutor two 2nd graders at Arlington Elementary School. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Krista Holland.
Regional Interfaith Association Meal
Every third Thursday of the month, our church is responsible for providing and serving the dinner meal at RIFA. This is a free meal for adults and families who are in need of a hot meal. Volunteers are needed to prepare, deliver and serve, as well as clean up. Meal prep and delivery is from 3:00pm – 5:00pm and the meal is served from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Contact Alan Teel for more information.
ARM’s Room In The Inn Ministry
Every third Friday during November through April, West Jackson hosts Room in the Inn, an outreach of Area Relief Ministries to the homeless men of Jackson. Volunteers are needed to serve meals and fellowship with the men. We also need a few men (ages 18+) to spend the night while the men are on our church campus. Donations of the following are always accepted: soap, shampoo, lotion, and other toiletries (all travel size). Please bring donations to the church office and mark them for “Room In The Inn Ministry”.
