Worship Ministry

What is Worship?

The LORD is worthy of worship, as the one true and living God. We were made to worship Him.  Worship can be defined as our response to who God is and what He has done, both as our Creator and Redeemer.  According to Romans 12:1-2, our spiritual act of worship as believers is to offer our very bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.  All of life is an opportunity for us to worship our great God.  The very breath in our lungs and the heart beating in our chest means we are alive and able to respond to our Creator.

Our worship as a church is a time where we gather to remember God’s faithfulness and to declare that He has bought us with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.  We have been redeemed from the bondage of our sins and are free to worship the Lord.  We do so through singing, praying, giving, preaching, and celebrating the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Few things define a people like their music. This is no less true of the church than of the culture at large. Our music at West Jackson makes a statement about who we are and what we believe as a church.

“Our music ministry is committed to God-focused worship. The songs we sing as a congregation are saturated with the good news of Jesus Christ, and we aim to exalt the name of our Lord. ”

Worship services at West Jackson reflect the varying styles and musical language of our people.  We believe these diverse and natural worship expressions are an exciting dynamic at West Jackson.

Sunday worship gatherings are faithfully led by our West Jackson choir and band/orchestra, singers and musicians committed to exalting the name of Jesus alone.

Both ancient and modern songs are utilized in the celebration of our great God. Our worship leaders encourage strong congregational participation and authentic response to the Lord.

The West Jackson Choir has a long legacy of excellence and faithful worship leadership.  The choir rehearses every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the choir rehearsal room.  Everyone is welcome!

There are many talented musicians in our community and within our church family.  We welcome the use of these instrumental gifts in corporate worship.  Sunday mornings are a special way for instrumentalists to serve the congregation in music.  Interested musicians should contact our worship office to schedule a brief interview and audition.

The Loft Band (Students)

We love students at West Jackson and it’s our goal to give them opportunities to worship at gatherings designed especially for them.  The Loft is our Wednesday night student gathering, open to 6th through 12th grades.  Interested musicians (high school/college) should contact our student ministry office to schedule a brief interview and audition.

Youth Choir

Youth Choir has been a priority of West Jackson for many years. All middle and high school students are welcome. Our students meet in the choir rehearsal room on Sunday nights from 4 – 5 pm during the school year. They sing regularly for worship services at West Jackson and throughout our community.

Kids Choir

Our KidsChoir is a fun way to get children excited about worship.  All kids, K-5th grade are welcome. Every Fall and Spring semester, our children gather on Wednesdays at 5:30pm for rehearsals and have a special presentation in May.  Our children also participate in the Christmas presentation with the entire worship ministry.  KidsChoir is directed and supported by a group of dedicated adults who love children and love making music for the Lord!
