Worship Ministry

What is Worship?

The LORD is worthy of worship, as the one true and living God. We were made to worship Him.  Worship can be defined as our response to who God is and what He has done, both as our Creator and Redeemer.  According to Romans 12:1-2, our spiritual act of worship as believers is to offer our very bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.  All of life is an opportunity for us to worship our great God.  The very breath in our lungs and the heart beating in our chest means we are alive and able to respond to our Creator.

Our worship as a church is a time where we gather to remember God’s faithfulness and to declare that He has bought us with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.  We have been redeemed from the bondage of our sins and are free to worship the Lord.  We do so through singing, praying, giving, preaching, and celebrating the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Style

Few things define a people like their music. This is no less true of the church than of the culture at large. Our music at West Jackson makes a statement about who we are and what we believe as a church.

Our music ministry is committed to God-focused worship. The songs we sing as a congregation are saturated with the good news of Jesus Christ, and we aim to exalt the name of our Lord.

Worship services at West Jackson reflect the varying styles and musical language of our people.  We believe these diverse and natural worship expressions are an exciting dynamic at West Jackson.

Sunday worship gatherings are faithfully led by our West Jackson choir and band/orchestra, singers and musicians committed to exalting the name of Jesus alone.

Both ancient and modern songs are utilized in the celebration of our great God. Our worship leaders encourage strong congregational participation and authentic response to the Lord.

Kids Choir

Our KidsChoir is a fun way to get children excited about worship. All kids, Preschool-5th grade, are welcome. Our children gather on Wednesdays at 5:30pm for rehearsals and have special opportunities to sing in the Spring, and also participate in the Christmas presentation. KidsChoir is directed and supported by a group of dedicated adults who love children and love making music for the Lord!

Nexus

Youth Choir has been a priority of West Jackson for many years. NEXUS is a Wednesday night ministry, specifically for 6th-8th grade students (5:30pm-6:15pm). The end goal here is simply to encourage our students to worship with freedom and joy!  This is a unique opportunity for our younger students to gather for their own ministry, meeting in the student ministry area (first room on the left across from college- E202).  The word NEXUS simply means “a connection or bond linking two or more things.” In our worship ministry, this is a final stage of age-graded choirs, and ultimately a transition for Sunday worship leadership, which they can continue into adulthood.

Singers

Our ministry has a long legacy of faithful worship leadership. The Worship Choir meets in our upstairs rehearsal room every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm or Sunday afternoons from 4:30pm-5:30pm.  All high school students, college students or adults are welcome! We also have front-line, vocal team singers that rotate and help lead each Sunday.

Musicians

There are many talented musicians within our church family. We welcome the use of these instrumental gifts in corporate worship. Sunday mornings are a special way for musicians to serve the congregation. Anyone interested may contact our worship office to schedule a brief interview and audition.

Tech Team

Technology is an important part of worship leadership. Our tech team serves faithfully by running sound, lights, lyrics, and cameras. Use the info below to contact Pastor Steve if you are interested in serving in this area.
